I went shopping last weekend to pick up a few things for fall.
Fall is definitely one of the best times of the year. There's pumpkin spice lattes and you get to wear boots and scarves (I'm such a common white girl, it's insane).
Fall's the season of flexibility, where it can go from 30 degrees in the morning to 60 by the end of the day. That's what I base all of my fall essentials of off: flexibility. Fall is the season to be relaxed, comfortable, but also chic. Who doesn't love to wear a comfy sweater with a scarf and leggings?? It's effortless to pull off, while still looking put together.
I mean, what's not to like??
So I went shopping with my family and here's what I wore. This is post-pumpkin spice latte and french fries. I'd say I was pretty content with my life at that moment.
Outfit Details:
Sweater: Delia's
Scarf: Bonton, I think?
Jeans: Abercrombie and Fitch
Boots: Steve Madden
After picking up a few things at H&M and Forever 21, I am now ready to present my FALL ESSENTIALS!
FALL ESSENTIALS
- Denim Shirt
This is a staple in any girl's wardrobe because of it's flexibility to go from casual to comfy to dressed up. You can wear it with a sweater, a scarf, a necklace, even by itself. Throw it on with a dress underneath, with a skirt, with jeans, even with leggings! It can be used to layer under sweaters in the cold fall weather or on top of tank tops to allow you to wear those during the chillier months. I have four denim shirts, all different cuts for different styles. I recently purchased a loose, longer denim shirt for layering and to wear with accessories. I felt that my other denim shirts weren't simple enough, as I've been transitioning my wardrobe to be more simple and chic.
(Not my best quality picture, but it's very plain)
I got this at H&M for $29.95 which was a bit on the pricy side. You could probably find a cheaper one that looks exactly the same at Forever 21. It's a bit longer and wider, so it's cut more like a men's shirt, but I think that's what makes it so flexible. Definitely a must-have for fall.
- Pea Coat
I think every girl needs a pea coat. Whether it be wool or whatever else jackets are made of. Pea coats are flexible to different dress codes. Go for a simple white or black one(or any solid color, those are just my faves) because you can wear one to school, to a luncheon, to a black tie event, even to a football game. I probably own at least 5 pea coats, all different cuts and styles and material, but you really don't need that many (I just have a shopping problem). In preparation for fall, I bought a TAN one. This is a really big step for me, since I wear a lot of blacks and grays, not many tans and browns. Now that I look at it...it may be gray...I'm not quite sure, so I'll take a picture and you guys decide, okay??
What color is this? Hahaha I'm honestly so confused about what color this is, but whatever. This isn't a very fancy looking one, more casual for school or going outside when it's not too cold, to like jump in the leaves or something you normally do outside in the fall. This can easily be accessorized with a scarf or hat. It can be worn with any type of shoes, especially boots!
- Scarves
This is the most obvious one because scarves are essential ALL THE TIME. According to my latest count(like 3 months ago), I had over 40 scarves. I have an obsession, especially with infinity scarves. Those are my favorite ones in the fall and winter. Go for more solid colors during those two seasons and more patterns in the spring and summer.
Try wearing your scarves in different ways

My mom got me these really cute scarf bins from Thirty-One for Christmas, but they can't hold all of my scarves haha that's how bad my addiction is!
I have a favorite scarf that I wear so often that it's actually starting to rip in the back! It's a white infinity scarf that goes with almost anything!!

Those were all from the past 3 weeks haha I don't even have pictures of all the times I've worn it.
But I think it's important to find that kind of staple for your wardrobe so if you don't know what to wear, you always have something to go with everything while still looking chic!
- Monogrammed Everything!
Recently, as my style has evolved, I've stumbled upon monograms and I've been obsessed ever since! My Etsy shopping cart is filled with monograms and since I started my job, I can finally get more!! I don't really know what it is about them that I love, but now I just want everything to have my initials on it! Scarves, shirts, boots, binders, mugs, necklaces, bracelets, towels, EVERYTHING. What I have so far is:
Monogrammed Coffee Thermos!
I got this from www.marleylilly.com and it's one of the best websites everrrr!
Plus, they'll send you free stickers!! I love this thermos, I use it almost everyday for my morning latte to take to school(:
Monogrammed Necklace!
I got this on Etsy and it's handmade! It's sterling silver and I wear it constantly! It matches everyyyythinggg! It wasn't too expensive, with free shipping!! Etsy shops are the best deals for monograms! My sister ordered one too after she saw mine! I mean, who wouldn't want one of these babies??
Enjoy this snapchat of me wearing the necklace with a button-up
Pretty adorbs, I'd say.
(I'm writing this really late at night, so I'll probably regret putting that picture in here later)
- Books
I recently read two books that made me cry and smile and laugh and everything in between. I've been reading a lot more lately, after not having had time to read for the past few years with my busy schedule. If I get hooked on a book, I'll finish it in a day. That's how much I love to read. I think in the fall weather, it's the perfect time to read. Whether it be in the breeze under a tree or snuggled up in the warmth of your house.
The first book I LOVED this month was Where She Went, which is the sequel to If I Stay. I read If I Stay about three or four years ago and I just finally got the sequel (took me long enough!). Sorry if I just spoiled If I Stay for you by saying that there's a sequel, but whatever, I'm sure you all know what happens by now, especially since it's now a movie (WITH CHLOE MY IDOL). The casting of the movie was perfect, btw. Chloe owned it. Anyway, I won't get into the plot since I don't want to spoil anything, but just go read the back of it and you'll get the idea. I threw it on the ground, kicked it, cried on it, laughed, and bent a lot of it's pages. I read it in a solid 4 hours, I think. Like with stuff in that 4 hours other than reading. That's how hooked I was. Gayle Forman is one of my favorite authors and I highly suggest this book if you liked the first one. This book is the perfect companion to the first.
The second book is The Promise of a Pencil by Adam Braun. It's an autobiography of the founder of the non-profit, Pencils of Promise. I had heard of the charity, but I didn't know it's origins. Braun quits his job on Wall Street, opens up a bank account with $25 in it, and starts this organization to bring education to children all over the world by building them schools. Along the way, Braun teaches you valuable life lessons and teaches you how to be a better person. He made me question what I value most in my life and if it's right to value that. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I find him to be an inspiring individual, who is selfless and only cares about helping others, a kind of person that is very rare in today's world.
- CHAPSTICK
One of my favorite things in the entire world is chapstick. I have a whole bag of them that I keep in my room and the rest are scattered through all of my purses.
Here are the ones I have just in my room.
My favorite kind is eos because it has the coolest shape and it has the best flavors. I don't even know what the flavors are called but I love them so that's all that matters. Baby Lips are amazing too because it literally tastes like Tropical Punch. I have a Mcintosh apple one that's on the left side that I've been using a lot in the fall. I think it's from Bath and Body Works.
- Hand Sanitizer
I'm a bit of a germaphobe, especially during fall AKA flu season. I LOVE hand sanitizer. I'd rather wash my hands, but hand sanitizer is great when you're in public or don't have access to soap and water. Bath and Body Works has the deal of 5 for $5 sometimes and that's when I pick up a lot of mine.
My two favorites are Pink and Warm Vanilla Sugar. Warm Vanilla Sugar is my favorite at Bath and Body, I have it in lotions and sprays. The Pink is so cool because it leaves little sparkles on your hands and it smells amazing.
- Tunics with boots
I just started wearing more mature dresses, different from my usual baby doll dresses. Tunics go perfectly with boots, so they're perfect for warmer fall days. Tunics are a staple of warm weather dressing and can be found at boutiques, such as Francesca's, and online from designers, such as Tory Burch.
I got this dress at Francesca's Boutique and I've gotten so many compliments on it. It has almost no shape, so it's not tight or uncomfortable. You can just throw it on if you're in a hurry. This was my first day of school outfit and it was perfect, especially since it was a chillier day.
- Boots
It isn't fall without boots! I have 15 pairs, but lately I've been favoring riding style boots. My two favorites are from Madden Girl. I got them on 6pm.com & here are the links:

The brown ones are seen above with my tunic and the black ones are seen below with my kimono.
- Kimono
Kimonos are very popular right now. Kimonos can be used to make dresses fall-friendly. Popular brands that carry kimonos are Abercrombie and Brandy Melville. Select boutiques sell them now as well. Pair them with a solid colored shirt/dress with boots or flats to create a warm fall look that shows signs of summer.
I paired my kimono from Abercrombie with a black skater dress from Brandy Melville and black riding boots from Steve Madden. It was super cold when I took these and the kimono kept me nice and warm the whole time. It was on sale, but usually kimonos are around $30.
- PSL
I had to add this to the list because it only comes around during the fall.
PUMPKIN. SPICE. LATTE. We all know it. Some roll our eyes at it. Some worship it. Others don't know the acronym PSL.
Well, I am one who worships it and drinks as much of it as I can before fall is over.
Judge me. It's delicious.
Believe me, there is nothing better than curling up with a good book and a PSL. NOTHING.
Pumpkin spice lattes make my world a better place and they should make yours too. They can be pricy, but come on, they only come around once a year.
PSL season>>>>
That wraps up my fall essentials! I hope you agree that these are fall must-haves for not only your wardrobe, but your life!
I hope this gives you some inspiration for your own fall wardrobe and fashion ideas.
xoxo,
Emmi
