Perfect Fall Day!

Since it is now one of my favorite times of year, I thought I would do a blog post of all of my favorite things in the fall!

With fall comes pumpkin EVERYTHING, boots, scarves, scares, candy corn, and lots of corn mazes!

The other day I got to go to a corn maze with the girls on the staff at my school newspaper! Three of the photographers for the paper came so of course we had a little fall-themed photoshoot as we made our way through the maze! Shoutout to the photo girls for all of the amazing pictures of the day!!

Trying to find our way through the maze... (PC: Katherine)

It was probably the most legit corn maze I have ever done, complete with a huge map and really difficult questions! Thank God we had Google to help us look up some answers! ;)

Looking up our answers! (PC: Katherine)

Thankfully, we scored a 60% on the questions so that we were able to get our prize!

Our prize was baby pumpkins to take home! Mine is sitting on my desk next to my little succulents!
My baby pumpkin!

The whole group after we completed the maze!
We stopped at a little market shop on the way back that was SUPER fall themed! They even had pumpkin checkers!!!
Caroline beating me at pumpkin checkers. In my defense, I did not remember the rules of checkers. (PC: Jessica)

And the perfect fall day is not complete without a few fun pictures and a beautiful fall sunset to end the day!

I loved this cute, slightly ugly pumpkin! (PC: Jessica)
The Op/Ed ladies! (PC: Caroline)

The sunsets around here are so so beautiful!

I'm glad I was able to get out with some great friends for a great fall evening! The weather has been perfect and the company even more perfect! So thankful for all of the stereotypical fall things near my school!

Now I just need a few more cups of apple cider and a few more pumpkin flavored things to achieve the perfect fall day! ;)

Stay tuned for more fall-themed blog posts!!!

Perfect Rainy Day Outfits

Currently, I'm sitting in the cafe where I work, drinking a latte to keep warm as it rains and pours outside. Since today is a perfectly gloomy, rainy day, I figured that it would be a perfect blog post!

I don't know about anyone else, but I love rainy days. Not just jumping in puddles, but also curling up in my house with a nice warm coffee and lots of books and sweaters.

Before you can put together a rainy day outfit, there are a couple staple pieces that you're going to need.

A Trench Coat

My trench coat is from American Eagle, but I'm eyeing a new one on Nordstrom right now! Hello Anniversary Sale!

The key to the perfect trench coat is that you want one that is not too long, but not too short. You also have to keep in mind how large or small the collar is. I don't like the larger, wider collars, instead opting for the slimmer collars. I also like to have a belt, but that is a personal preference.

Color is also important! Don't buy a crazy color that you will never wear again! I go for black, gray, navy, and tan. Tan is my personal favorite. I'm loving this tan one from Ralph Lauren, but they're out in my size, so I just ordered this one to replace my old one!

I just bought this trench from Gap! I ordered an XS
using the size chart and the reviews!

Here is me in the trench

My advice would to be ALWAYS TRY COATS ON. I can't even count how many times I purchased a coat without trying it on first and I ended up hating the way it looked on me.

Underneath the trench coat is where you can get creative! I usually opt for solids and stripes on rainy days. A black and white stripped shirt under the trench with rain boots is a perfect combination! A solid colored sweater also pairs very nicely with the trench. Make sure to play up the solid color with a necklace or scarf, depending on the weather. I usually go for a solid colored, dark jean in heavy rain and a lighter jean in light rain. I usually opt for the lighter jean for a more casual rain look. If you have a specific color of rain boot, make sure to compliment that color! That's why I love having two pairs so that if I want to wear a sweater or top that definitely does not match pink, I am able to wear my black ones instead!

You can also change up the length of your trench! My newer one is longer, while the older one is shorter.

Rain Boots

Hunter is currently having a Back to School Sale  with pieces being up to 50%!!! If anyone is familiar with Hunter, they do not have many sales so this is a huge deal! I'm trying to stop myself from browsing the site, but I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up buying another pair! My pair are the Women's Original Tall Rain Boot in Raspberry (which is sadly no longer available). I will link a pair below that are currently on sale and they are the same style but in pink!

If I was to buy another pair of Hunters, I'd go for the Women's Original Tall Glossy Rain Boot because it is so classic and chic.

An Umbrella

Don't forget your umbrella because most trench coats don't have hoods and a coat is never enough!

Try a clear umbrella or a cute striped umbrella!

But before you can enjoy a rainy day inside OR outside, you need the perfect outfit. I have two outfit approaches for a rainy day.

Outfit #1

The first outfit is my trench coat, heels, ripped jeans, and a striped shirt.

My top is pretty old and from American Eagle! It can easily be substituted for a Gap or J Crew shirt with stripes or any other print!

My jeans are from American Eagle as well and they hit right at my ankle. I'm obsessed with ankle jeans and they go perfectly with these heels!

The heels are nude and from Steve Madden! I just scored them on sale at TJ Maxx for less than half of the price listed on the Nordstrom website

I already linked my Gap trench coat above! I'm obsessed with it already and it makes me feel like a super stylish fashionista/detective!

Outfit #2

This outfit is cute for staying in and reading a good book! It's comfortable, casual, and affordable.

I love to journal and take pictures while I'm stuck inside for the day!

The sweatshirt is from Brandy Melville and it's honestly soooooo warm. I think it's fleece lined and I'm in love with it. It says "But First Coffee" which is honestly my life. The sweatshirt can be substituted for a tee or a long sleeve. A tank top could work too!

This shirt from Jack Wills can be a substitute for the sweatshirt!

I always want to curl up with a cup of coffee on a rainy day.

A little tumblr inspo for you...

The jeans are vintage Levi's, and the shoes are Adidas Superstars! I bought my jeans at Goodwill and I bought the Superstars in a children's size which saved me some money! If you have small enough feet, definitely order in a kid's size.

I love this outfit because it is good for staying in, but you could also go out in it. It's perfect for a movie night or a super casual dinner with friends!!!

But, if you don't feel like dressing up or going out in the rain, you can always put on a tee shirt and sweats ;)

Getting to Know Me! :)

So I've had this blog for quite awhile and haven't posted much...

I have been super busy with school and testings and college searching and everything, so I thought I'd formally introduce myself with a blog post so you guys can get to know me a bit better before I start posting regularly.

If you hadn't already noticed, my name is Emmi. Emmi, not Emmy, Emme, Emmie, Emmey, etc. EMMI. Don't ask why it's spelled that way, my parents picked it out. That's not my real name, so I'll let you figure out what my real name is(HINT: not Emily).

This is my second fashion blog...The first I made three years ago and it's pretty bad. (http://www.fashionablielate.blog.com for anyone who wants a good laugh).

Since the first blog, my style has evolved over time...From tunics with leggings and neons to combat boots and dark colors to collared shirts and monograms to the mix of styles I have today, I still can't categorize my style. I'm definitely leaning towards a more preppy and sophisticated style (except for the past few days as it's been -10 and I have been wearing sweatshirts and Uggs...oops...I regret nothing).

I guess I'll tell you a few things about myself:

*I'm pretty small so I get frequently picked up by people and love to jump on people since I can't possibly injure anyone besides myself. I like to call these"surprise piggyback rides".

*I'm diabetic #swag

*I aspire to be either a lawyer, standup comedian, personal shopper, and/or hand model.

*I am one of those people who says "I literally cried" about whatever, but in reality, I LITERALLY cried. I cry over everything. Puppies, shoes, handbags, cleaning off my car, extra large lattes, you name it.

*I go through weird food obsessions. The latest is hot sauce. I put it on EVERYTHING. Except toast, which is my other obsession. Only butter on toast. It makes sense and it's delicious.

*If you are my friend, be prepared for me to spontaneously show up at your house & never leave you alone. Also, be prepared to be the subject of my fashion/ photography photo shoots.

This is my super hot best friend TJ modeling some cute fall looks.

*I loveeee to travel (I'm a dual citizen of The Netherlands and the US). I've been to over 10 countries. This is me  in Barcelona in fall 2013.

*I LOVE Friends <3
This is me and Tay trying to reenact a Friends poster we saw.
(Note: I am lactose intolerant, but this milkshake was necessary.)

*I spend a lot of time doing school work... I swear I'm not a nerd...

*Some of my hobbies are making fun of myself, online shopping, and drinking coffee. Pretty basic.
*Oh yeah, I dance and sing...and play soccer when I don't have a concussion or broken back :-)

Singing and dancing for Christmas *santa emoji*

*I go to lots of concerts...The most recent was this summer when I saw Austin Mahone with my little sister and we almost died of heat stroke

Disclaimer: No, we are not twins. No, she is not older even though she is taller.

Hope I get to show you guys who I really am through this fashion blog. I've learned to not take myself too seriously, so we'll see how serious this blog turns out to be!
